TURBODEN - A Group Company of MHI, is a leading ORC turbogenerator manufacturer.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is one of the world’s leading heavy machinery manufacturers, with consolidated sales of over US$28 billion in 2011. Turboden, a group company of MHI, is a leading ORC manufacturer based in Italy with more 30 years of experience. Today, Turboden focuses its activity on design and the production of ORC systems for distributed generation in renewable energy application and industrial heat recovery. Turboden expertise in ORC technology is proven in the design, manufacture, installation, and maintenance of more than 284 ORC units in over 32 countries around the world.
ORC turbogenerators utilize heat from several sources, including biomass, industrial processes, reciprocating engines, gas turbine, geothermal, and solar thermal plants. Electric power output ranges between 1 MW to 10 MW.
ORC technology is similar to a traditional steam turbine, but with a single, important difference. Instead of using water vapor, the ORC system vaporizes a high-molecular-mass organic fluid, resulting in excellent electric performance and several key advantages: slower turbine rotation, lower pressure, and no erosion of metallic parts and blades. The ORC unit is preassembled onto one or more skids and can be easily transported.
Advantage of TURBODEN ORC Turbogenerator:
[Technical Advantages]
▶ High cycle efficiency
▶ Very high turbine efficiency
▶ Low turbine mechanical stress due to low peripheral speed
▶ Low turbine rpm, allowing the direct drive of the electric generator without gear reduction in many applications
▶ No erosion of blades, thanks to the absence of moisture in the vapor nozzles
▶ No water consumed – no need to demineralize water
[Operational Advantages]
▶ Simple start-stop procedures
▶ Automatic and continuous operation
▶ No operator attendance needed
▶ Quiet operation
▶ High availability (typically 98%)
▶ Partial load operation down to 10% of normal power
▶ High efficiency at partial load
▶ Low maintenance cost
▶ Long life (> 20 years)
REFERENCES in Key Market Sectors:
▶ Reciprocating Engine, Gas Turbine and Landfill Gas Turbine – Waste Heat
▶ Cement - Preheater and Clinker Cooler gas waste heat recovery
▶ Glass Factory – Float glass production process
▶ Steel Industry - Exhaust gas from EAF (Electric Arc Furnace) and Billet reheating furnace at steel rolling mill
▶ Biomass CHP – for district heating networks, sawmills, wood pellet factories, MDF industries, thermal baths, greenhouses, refrigeration plants with absorption chiller - Sawdust, Wood Chips, Bark, Rice Husks, Dried Sewage, Sludge, Straw, Etc.
▶ Solar – Concentrated Solar Power
▶ Municipal Waste Treatment – Waste to Energy plant
▶ Geothermal – mainly from low-temperature liquid-dominated wells (100 - 180℃)
Organic Rankine Cycle is well-known and widely spread form of energy production, mostly in biomass and geothermal application, but great rises in solar and heat recovery applications are also expected. Environmental concern over climate change and rising oil prices are powerful reason supporting the explosive growth of this efficient, clean and reliable way of producing electricity.
